Burnout 3: Takedown Online

Burnout 3: Takedown was the first Burnout game that could be played online. Burnout 2: Point of Impact for XBox had online leaderboards through XBox Live but no online play.

The online play is one of the main reasons why Burnout 3: Takedown became extremely popular. The introduction of the offensive driving elements works perfectly when you take the game online. Burnout 3: Takedown has three main online game modes; crash, road rage and race. Race and Road Rage can have up to 6 players in one race. In crash the maximum is 8.

The Takedown

Burnout 3: Takedown introduces the takedown. To take someone down in Burnout 3: Takedown means that you make an opponent crash. There are several ways to take opponents down.

Signature Takedown in Burnout 3: Takedown 

Wall Takedown
Wall takedowns are probably the most common takedown type. To do a wall takedown you just have to get one of your opponents crash into a wall or structure. They are easiest obtained by smashing into your opponent from the side.
 
Aftertouch Takedown
You can obtain these after you crash by entering impact time and directing your crashed car into an opponent. This is only available in offline play.
 
Traffic Takedown
These are obtained by making an opponent crash into a car, bus, trailer, truck, tram, big-rig or other vehicle.
 
Signature Takedown
There are 20 signature takedowns in the game and these can be obtained offline by taking down an AI opponent in specific ways.
 
Psycheout Takedown
These can be obtained both offline and online by tailgating opponents and forcing them to crash without making physical contact or by touching them shortly before they crash.
 
Revenge takedown
Takedown an opponent who has already taken you out in the same event.

BurnoutAholics at Criterion Games!

On Saturday the 6th of October 2007 Xandu and I went to Criterion Games in Guildford to play Burnout Paradise for the weekend.

We drove up to Guildford in the morning full of excited anticipation! It took ages to find a parking spot, and then even longer to find Criterions offices!! But, eventually we made it and Hamish Young let us in and showed us around.  The first thing we saw at the top of the escalators was a Full Size Revenge Racer which had crashed through the wall.

2007 was a great year for BurnoutAholics.com. The prototype web site was lunched 2007-01-01. In May work on the site in the form we know it today began and 1 month later we opened up for registrations. We started counting unique visitors 2007-06-01. Here are the stats for the last 7 months:   Activity Unique visitors: 20027 Average unique visitors a day: 125 (last 4 months) Total page views: 124958

Extra Cars in Burnout Paradise

UK Burner's can now get an Extra car by pre-ordering Burnout Paradise at GAME, just like the US can by pre-ordering at GameStop.

 Wal-Mart Racer

The Walmart Racer can be unlocked by entering "WALMART" in "Under The Hood" in the main menu of Burnout Paradise.  Which makes me wonder what other words can be entered to unlock other cars?

Burnout Paradise Demo supporting 8 players online

From Jan 4th to Jan 14th 2008, the Paradise City servers will double the number of players that can join in an online session of Burnout Paradise, from 4 to 8. This also means that all 22 challenges in the demo will be made available. Read the full story here.
