A Major Major First For Glastonbury Festival .

If you were to ask most bands what their dreams are made of,then being the first confirmed act at Glastonbury might well get a mention. Happily for a group of lads from Liverpool, that dream has just come true. Neil Diamond was the first confirmed act last year, this year it's Major Major, you might do well to remember the name.

Major Major won the inaugural RockStar Bands competition, a new nation-wide hunt for the best unsigned bands. They fended off strong competition from other great bands, all performing their own original material.

The RockStar Bands competition has as its first prize the small matter of first confirmed spot at Glastonbury and a recording session at Peter Gabriel's Real-world Studios. Major Major also recently played The Equinox Party in Pilton with Franz Ferdinand and The Ting Tings.

Based in Pilton, Somerset the competition was designed to unearth the very best in unsigned music and open doors to opportunities that will truly change lives. The winners blew the Pilton crowd away with a 20-minute set featuring an eclec-tic mix of jazz, disco, drum and bass, and hip hop with a bit of flamenco thrown in for good measure.

Major Major are: Conor Clarke (lead vocals and guitar), Neil Owen (lead guitar and vocals), Louis Cooper (bass guitar and vocals) and Liam Dobie (drums and vocals). Theirs is an exciting and energetic sound: an amalgamation of melodic, harmonious vocals, dirty psychotic guitar and a grooving dance rhythm section all encompassing intelligent lyrics that somehow find the time to tell a tale or two.

Conor Clarke from Major Major, said:

“It's amazing to be the first band confirmed for Glastonbury next year, it'll save us time buying tickets. The RockStar gigs were immense and I think we really impressed the crowds with our original, danceable songs, idiotic banter and a bit of jacket charm. Hopefully our profile rockets as we count the days until Glastonbury 09. Come and see us!”

Kelly Sumner, RockStar Bands' President of Rock, said: “The search for great unsigned talent is at the heart of RockStar Bands. RockStar 08 was a fantastic success and brought together some amazing talent from across the UK. Major Major performed a stunning set at the final and will now go on to play Glaston-bury 2009, having just performed at the Equinox Party. Before then we are taking them into Realworld Studios to record.

“RockStar Bands 09 is now underway. Entrants will soon be able to register. Watch this space, RockStar 09 is going to be enormous.”
