It is fine to love this series, or even one game in the series and even to argue/debate over which is best but do we need to be constantly qualifying our statements with "true" burner/fan.
I would probably not be considered a "true" fan by some purely based on my liking Paradise, or even my preference for Crash junctions in Revenge.
I am happy to admit that I am not the greatest fan of racing in Revenge (possibly down to sheer laziness to invest the time in learning how to boost jump consistently) but I would be crazy to suggest that it is any way a lesser experience than any that I do enjoy. That being said, I do not think that, just because you race on Revenge or B3, you are in any way more qualified to condemn those that do enjoy other aspects of the series, and especially not to pull out the "true" Burner/fan trope.
There is at least one member of this community who, by their own admission, would condemn Paradise without even having played the game, you do not have to play the game, just stop passing off secondhand information as your opinion.
In a recent post another "true" burner cast aside the Crash junctions as irrelevant - their dislike for Crash Junctions does not make them irrelevent [sic], any more than my dislike for Racing makes it irrelevant.

OCD
About 90% of my friends list is made up from people I have met whilst playing the Burnout series, some from B3 some from Revenge and some from Paradise, this being said I consider each and everyone one of them to be a “true” burner along with all the people on this site.
Its not the amount you play or the game mode you favor, hell, some of the old school burners from B3 didn’t get on with revenge so have pretty much stopped playing Burnout altogether but I still consider them true burners.
Whether you crash, race, flatspin, glen, go for road times or whatever floats your boat, we all have one thing in common (apart from being monobrowed knuckle draggers), the adrenaline rush we get every time we play, be it from taking down a rival to hitting all the vehicles on a crash junction, even glenning a fast lap must give you a buzz (for the record I have never glenned a lap because I don’t know how to, as my lap times show),
What I see When I’m playing on FPS games with Burners is the run and gun attitude, fast and aggressive straight in, all guns blazing just like the start of a race, kill them before they kill you kinda attitude, whereas people I have met from playing FPS games are much more measured and tactical (boring camping srekcuf) they don’t tend to die as much, but they spend 10 minutes behind a wall waiting for an idiot like me to come into sight so they can pop a cap in my arse ( I iz Street bro innit).
Its hard to put ones finger on any one aspect of burnout that make one a “true burner”, for me its many things, only because I am a fan of all the Burnout titles that have been released and all for different reasons, all I know is that its like drug and I need a fix pretty much everyday.
And hn6 please let me have at least one road rule time you obsessive compulsive dratsab, have you taken uphill yet?? I did it in the carbon uber btw.

In my perspective
A true burner is a burnout fan that loves playing the old burnout games but realizes that paradise is not a real burnout game.

REAL Burnout Fans
I came across this old post from Alex Ward over at the Operation Burnout forums today.. it is in a thread asking who has the Original Burnout game.
"REAL Burnout fans would have played them all, and would know all about the US Marathon with Survival Rules on...."
So I guess maybe until you have played them all, you are not a true or REAL fan! I ofcourse, have played them all!

So Rofer, you don't think Paradise is a burnout game?, i was playing with hawkeye on Paradise yesterday for a couple of hours we did the bikes for a while then we did a bit of racing and stuff, and yes he whined and moaned about pretty much everything but he did get into the swing of things, trying to beat roadtimes and getting a couple of decent results in ranked racing (he got his rank down to about 10000 which ain't too shabby for a greenhorn), in the end he buggered off back on Revenge for a few races to get his confidence back (although i did see him playing single player later on trying to get the revenge racer lol).
His main complaint was that he didn't get all the cars without having to put some effort in, Unlike Revenge where ALL the cars were giftwrapped on a silver platter and given to even the greenest of noob, which is great, but there is only 1 car in revenge (no its not the 190 Nito, you have mad elite skillz and we are not worthy), so there is no real need to complete the offline game.
Paradise on the other hand, nothing is given to you, you have to earn it by playing the offline and this is what makes Paradise a Burnout game, you do get the old Burnout feel playing it offline and you do get a sense of achievment for unlocking the faster cars later on in the game which you can use online.
In my opinion if you are too lazy to unlock some of the faster vehicles on paradise you will never see the full potential online, and will probably be driving around in the hunter calvery when they sunsettle the revenge servers next year, good luck with that dude.

Offline mode
Yeah kevlar0, I'll definitely give Paradise that. Paradise has the best single player experience of any Burnout game. Exploring the world for the first time was one of the most fun things I've ever done playing Burnout...
Too bad it all got old rather fast.

I think that's just part of
I think that's just part of society today. Everyone has a sense of entitlement which we clearly saw with the Rai-Jin, sadly. No one wants to put any effort into anything, which is why there's all those weapons and car packs for EA games... stuff you can earn without paying a dime.
Just par for the course these days.

Omg
I have already given my reason to why i don't like paradise, and you are completely wrong that is not why. That is actually one of the exact reasons why i really hated the 360 version of revenge is because the cars are already unlocked for you online when on the xbox version i had to get 100% to use the revenge racer online. That is why the xbox version was way more satisfying not anybody could get it only the true elites could.
And mabey i diddn't unlock the faster cars in paradise but i sure as hell got to play with them because i played with "friends" that had them like frozenvapor. And even when i played with thelogitech racer and the revenge racer it did not change my opinion of the game whatsoever.
Quit makeing up excuses to why i don't like it kevlar and try actually reading my posts to try to understand my opinion the way it truely is.

Oh stfu vapor
Ok vapor mabey now you are on our side (the revenge fans) but you were all into paradise since like 4 months ago you kept telling yourself that it was the best burnout game and crap while i on the other hand could see right through the crappiness since the very beginning. How could a burner be that lame and love a new burnout more than all the previous burnouts that comes out just because it was called burnout. I am sorry but yeah vapor is extremely lame for that he cant' even tell what makes burnout so awesome and that is why i removed him such a long time ago.

Sorry Rofer...
But to me Revenge isn't much better than Paradise... it's probably the sloppiest and laziest game in the whole series, nowhere near as refined as Burnout 2 and 3. Both Paradise and Revenge are still good games though... in their own way. Revenge for it's sense of speed and umm... errr, verticles? The 360 exclusive freezing feature is also nice. Paradise for it's good looks and it's attempt to be a more social game (even though that's not really my thing as I prefer hardcore mute racing :p, but it's a quality the game has whether I like it or not).
Criterion have said themselves that they want to do something different with Burnout each time they put a game in the series out... and that's fine, but they can't seriously expect every fan to go along with them when they do something as... unique... as Paradise. Having said that I do hope they keep the servers running for a long time when it comes to whatever older game in the series people like best.
Oh and Rofer, once again... B3 >>> Revenge (even when racing in compacts).

I tried god help me, I tried.
Should I tell you all the biggest reason why a lot of the Revenge players didn't like Paradise? Because they were unwilling to learn the entire map and the 200+ shortcuts, I truly believe its an IQ issue, way too much infomation going into such a small brain, Not all Revenge players are dolts, some can even spell there gamertag correctly and take themselves to the toilet, but on the whole revenge players are, Knuckle dragging arse scratching braindead excuses for Burnout players.
Please take this ^ with a pinch of salt I'm only JOKING, (well for the most part lol)

Revenge Players
Should I tell you what the biggest reason is why Revenge players dont like Paradise? Its not the map, definitely not... Its cause Paradise is so boring, no up close competition, and definitely nothing that would make the game more complicated such as BJing and DJing.... instead your given E-Brakes, Barrel Rolls...ect... Boring.... Doing 6 or 7 Barrel Rolls is still boring and gets old quick.....
As much as I would like to say Im joking..... Im not.....
I want to see a hanging, Lets Hang Kevlar for starting a Flame War! ROFLMAO......
