This is an ongoing blog, if i can keep going with it, but i'm going to give Burnout 1 a go I have already played the first champion ship, came 2nd over all I think could be wrong but it was fun'ish and definately made my hands sweat, which could mean i'm trying very hard to win or I have a long term illness. And since I played it only for a little while in the day, because would rather play Burnout 2, I thought time to give history a replay. The date on the front said 1998-2002, so a serious flash back people, lol.
As we all know the Original Xbox Live servers are going to be shut down from mid April, I thought this was the last chance to give it a go, since I found it hard to play due to check points. They were not a problem so far, and feel confident that I can, with a few hours a day finish the game before April, with my my Wow playing and still trying to hang with my freinds on other games on the Xbox 360. (Also I have not written anything worth reading in the last year or more so I thought some practice would be a good idea, lol!)
I have to admit I am not playing this on the original Xbox, due to not being able to recover my gamer tag on there, have tried over the last few years but it has not worked, so I will be playing with it on my 360 and saving it to me hard drive etc.
It has a good opening, though nothing compared to the final version of Paradise, or better than Burnout 3 for that matter, but it does run at a good frame rate on the 360, I assume 60 fps but i could be wrong
The user interface is simiple, you pick a race and pick a car, which are graded in difficulty Level, then hit start and your off.
The control set up is a bit different, Boost is in the same place, earn it more with oncoming, drifting and near misses and when you crash you gain Insurance $$'s, Accellerate and Brake/ Drift buttons are in the same place same and the Boost is still the Green Skittle, no boost start as yet with the Saloon but I'll keep trying. To change to First Person view is with the Left Bumper on the 360 controller and to look back is the Red B button.
The races are long, more than 2 min's a lap, and with 3 laps and chasing check points it's a worry that I'll crash to much and not get to the next check point let alone finish but have have for todays session finished the first championship. As a said not first but I was just giving it ago, when I unlock better cars, the Roadster for instance, I'll run them again if I can, also even in those days, I so forgot, you could save crash replays from each race seperated by laps in a list and have a look at them, best to look at the ones that do the most damage.
Graphically it's ok, a bit boxy compared to today but it has good draw distance, which is always needed for a racing game, and the car I chose is the Saloon, near modeled on a merc, it don't drive so well, a bit clunky when trying to drift, and goes well in a straight line when boosting, lol.
So that's my start back into the world of Burnout 1. But so far it don't seem like work, so until it does I'll keep ya posted about my progession, and hope i get frustrated like the first time I played it and walked away back to my beloved Burnout 2, lol.
