Personally I do not like the way you navigate menus using Kinect. Navigation is way to slow with the current implementation due to the pauses when selecting items and the fact that most games implement a system where you have to verify your choice with a OK/Cancel after selection. Getting into the gameplay can be a very tedious process and lots of times when you only have 10 minutes to play you don't want to spend 2-5 minutes to get into the gameplay.
I think it should be a requirement for all Kinect games that pass certification to have a menu system that could be navigated using the Xbox 360 Controller. EA Active 2 is the only Kinect game that I own that has this system and it works brilliantly. Getting into the game only takes seconds, compared to minutes with Kinect navigation.
Implementing interface navigation using the hand as a cursor as Microsoft have done with Kinect is not a good idea if you want a smooth and fast experience. The problem is that it is too slow due to the fact that it is very prone to erroneous selection. Because of this they have introduced delays on all selections which make navigation even slower.
If Microsoft had opted for a gesture based system instead it could possibly have worked. Then they would have been faced with other problems… i.e. teaching people what gestures are available. But I guess that is no worse that showing people what voice commands are available...

Waving like a loon
I really hate all the damn waving!
Surely if I have waved once Kinect knows where I am, why do I then have to wave again when the guide comes up before I can select anything??
It is slow and tedious and would be much quicker just hitting A a couple of times.
I think there should be an option to do both tho, as I don't always have my controller nearby when I am playing Kinect games.
