I was writing up a response to a question someone asked me and it just kinda got away from me. I thought I’d try to work it into something readable and just post it as a blog. I know this is BurnoutAholics not Skate.Aholics but there are a few parallels so maybe I can sneak by with this one.
So already going off what I've heard so far about Paradise, I was playing skate and I was kind of thinking there are a lot of similarities between the two games. Ok, I admit im going off some assumptions here (never played Paradise of course) but here’s what I was thinking. Both games are of the open world type where you're really just bumming around and when something catches your eye you go for it. Jump it, do a trick, wreck your car, see if you can hit a spot etc. For the most part just goofing around in an unstructured world. There isn’t much to unlock in skate straight away from the beginning, only new clothing, the entire map is unlocked. Same for the map in Paradise aside from newer cars to take down and achieve (ok, that ones a stretch) I could easily waste an entire day just wandering around the city in skate, the game puts in subtle hints when you come across a nice area with good terrain by cranking up the music a notch or two. I’m looking forward to cruising around Paradise city and scoping out new jumps to wreck off of. Crashing is fun in skate, its great seeing your skater get wrecked by a taxi. Hopefully Paradise will be the same. It looks like they are putting an emphasis into making crashing even more entertaining in the new Burnout. When you want to play with a friend on skate you just invite them into a session and just goof around in the same park, knock em down, or you can set up an event i.e. a best trick competition, play a game of s.k.a.t.e. (h.o.r.s.e.) etc. Paradise is doing the same thing, invite a friend in and go at it, or set up some kind of race event of some kind if you want. There is a great soundtrack in skate and the Burnout series is known for always having good music, same folks putting the list together for this one too. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I was really nervous about Paradise being an unstructured open world type game, but after playing skate I can see that it could be a lot of fun, especially when you add in the sense of speed there’s a lot potential there. I'm a little bit more relaxed and even more excited to see what can be done with this new Burnout. I apologize to everyone for making a comparison between Burnout and a skateboarding game but I couldn't help myself. If you play skate you'll see what I'm talking about. Now this is going to sound crazy but if Paradise winds up actually being somewhat similar to what skate is like then I know I’ll enjoy the game. And I’ll always have my copies of Revenge.
- Oh yeah, and neither game has a speedometer. -

Open World Games
There is not many out there, but the ones that are, give some value for money, THP8, Skate, The new Tony Hawks demo, which i crashed, and got stuck frozen in the air, while the rest of the world kept on going? TDU is ok but talking to people on there with a group of mates is hard to do, and if one person crashes the whole comms thing goes too. Until we play it(Paradise) we don't know what they do have in the offering, but so far its looking like a new gaming experiance.
I also forgot Crackdown, doh.
