Call me stupid but can someone confirm for me the difference between Online and Offline road rules?
When listening to the podacast I was excited to hear that I was going to compete directly with my friends - but for some reason, I see the records from people I dont even know in the Offline section, and my friends in Online - is there any way I can permenantly toggle this?
Its a bit let down for me in a game that so far, I am loving.

re: Road Rules Query
The difference is that offline Road Rules is a set of scores set by Criterion for you to beat. I dont think any of the names are real gamertags. In online road rules you compete for the best time with everyone on your friendslist. If you are lucky like me you have a couple of friends that always must rule all 64 roads... so when I have beaten 10 of them, next time I get online they will all be beaten by the same person
You easily select online Time road rule by pressing up on your d-pad twice (or four times for online showtime).

Offline Road Rules?
I did this reply already, but it obviously went into the Twilight Zone so I am gonna post it again.
The devs have the offline times - "Pompey Paul" on Ross, "Rootie" on Root. You have to have selected Online Times to get your friends list.
Like Xandu said, but I said it first, just don't know where my comment went??
