Stuntrun: Ignition

After buying Stuntman: Ignition from play dot com for £9.99 almost three weeks ago it finally arrived last Thursday. Initially I was planning to leave it nicely in my shelf wrapped in its plastic like so many other games in my collection. I’m a sucker for the £9.99 deals and it is hard to resist when the retail price for the same games here in Norway are £57.99!

Anyway... somehow the game ended up in my 360’s DVD drive. The game has both offline and online play. Career mode is the main game mode where you work as a stuntman in 6 different movies. You have to do 6 sets in each movie using cars, motorcycles and a variety of other vehicles. Each set has a number of stunts that you have to perform perfectly. If you fail you get a strike… 5 strikes and you are out. You can also do other stunts like near misses, smashes, barrel rolls, driving on two wheels, jumps and lots more in-between the other stunts. If you do another stunt within 2 seconds of the first one you get a stunt string (or multiplier!). Keep your string going for the whole set to get a special reward. Since I always go for this reward the game can get a little bit frustrating at times… but hey! Practice makes perfect!

At the end of each set you get a star rating (1-5) indicating how good your performance was. There is also a ladder (virtually identical to the one in Burnout Revenge) showing your over all progress. The number of stars you get is mainly decided by your total score but to get the fifth star you have to string all your stunts in the set which basically means that your score must be 0 at the end of the set.

The online game modes in Stuntman: Ignition are quite interesting and seems strangely familiar… I know I’ve seen this somewhere before… hmmm

The online play is called Multiclash and there are three modes to choose from: Backlot Battle, Backlot Race and Movie challenge. Backlot race is just that… a race mode. Backlot Battle is a free for all game mode which challenges you to do extreme stunts while simultaneously taking down the competition and steal their string (multiplier). Sounds fun doesn’t it? I’m sure we will see this in other games soon.

I hate renewing old handling styles, but did have fun racing as there are different short cuts to take on each lap, and thats something that is odd, racing is point to point or lapped, and Paradise just had point to point, Pointless! Considering what it could have been or may be or what ever you want it to be!
