Elitism

I really enjoy the Burnout series, especially Paradise. I'm a modest, humble player. Always willing to participate in challenges I've already completed, don't talk smack in the rooms, etc. I've known many players to be just like me and appreciate that. I'm at 101% on both systems, a pretty decent player in my own right, but I gotta say........

there are some real a$$holes in the ranked racing rooms. It's only been about a week since I started playing ranked races and already moved my ranking in the 1200's. However I get kicked out of more rooms than I am actually allowed to stay in and race. Why do some people feel so elite that they can judge someone's ranking too low and kick them because of it. Sorry to vent, it just really pisses me off. Especially now since it appears less people are playing on line and races are harder to find. I stuck it out last night but it took me a solid hour just to find a room that I wasnt kicked from and to find some friendly dudes to race.

If you are one of these people, please be considerate and dont assume that everyone with a ranking lower than yours means that it's some 10 year old kid there to pee in your Cherios.

I totally agree!

If Racer's aren't good enough to be in the top 100 or top 1000 even, when they race against everybody, then they aren't good enough to be in the top 100 or 1000!

If you really want kudos for being one of the best Racers in any game, you have to race against everybody.

And in Paradise there is no "handicapping" excuse to kick noobs either! So step up and let everybody race!

I have simple races and I NEVER check the rank of those that enter.  My rank generally fluctuates between 150-650 because of it but I'm more interested in having fun than any ranking!  If you see my moniker, jump in the room - I've never kicked anyone for any reason!!

Indy fan, you are on my friend list! I really enjoyed racing in your rooms and hope to do so more in the future. I had my ranking down in the 1100's, took a day off then yesterday I'm back about 1600, after a few rounds of racing I'm back in the 1800's! I hope this just means there are more people racing. Is there a formula about points/ranking as it pertains to racing against people with a lower ranking? This might explain why people dont want to race people with lower rankings.

YES!  The rankings of the players you race with significantly affects your points!  My ranking generally fluctuates between 250-700 regardless of whether I'm doing well or not in the rounds.  If you race with higher ranked people, your ranking will generally go up regardless of how you do in the round (at least in my experience).  I think that's why some of the so-called 'elite' racers kick players of lower ranking.  (I was one of the 'lower ranked' racers for a LOOOOONG time so I'm quite sensitive to how if feels to be kicked out of a several rooms before finding a race - that's why I don't kick ANYONE for ANY REASON.)  Hopefully, most of these issues will be resolved with the update.  I'm extremely pleased that they will be addressing the higher ranked drivers who disconnect if they are not doing well in a round!  That gets very irritating - the only time I've ever NOT finished a round is when my system froze.  Anyway, I look forward to the new system (though I hate the whole 'traffic' idea!) and can't wait to see how people creatively manipulate the new 'fixes'!!

Generally bad players are kicked because they slow the room down. It's called a speed handicap. The HANDICAP is why you are kicked; becuase your bad play negatively affects the entire room. No one likes to drive slow just because some noob is a mile behind, and through no fault of their own.

with the update, no kicking players and a clean slate ranking-wise. So this problem is solved. I understand that the occassional slow guy may piss you off, but I personally think it's better if everyone gets a shot at racing, not kicked just because they maybe the slow guy 'noob' that causes you to have to wait an extra minute for the race to end. That's the kind of elitism that really sucks, you were a noob at one time too buddy, just as I was. Get over it

The handicap is only an issue in online play on Burnout Revenge.

Sorry to here that youve been dealt a bad hand in getting into ranked rooms?......alot of people will kick you if you dont have a rank unfortunately in this game alot of people judge your racing skills on your rank...but for those who know this game know that with the amount of freeze outs that occur....you cant judge peoples skill by there rank...i have a decent enough rank and i usually let anyone run in my rooms as long as they have a headset and a rank....but if i need the spaces for friends the highest rank usually goes first.....and as for handicap well i suppose you just get used to it in this game....i wouldnt really class myself as an elite racer as such but i know i am pretty decent and i have the same problem by getting kicked because of my skill not the lack of it....ive found the lower my rank the less people want to race with me....me personally i dont care about rank as long as i get a good room with good people who know how to have a laugh and enjoy the game.....i dont care.....so if you ever see my room come and join me.....

Being kicked for being bad in the ranks is one thing, but being kicked because your beating everyone over and over is just plain mean!
