A Burnout moment

Please feel free to share if you've had something like this happen to you.

Total Burnout moment -

Just picked up a copy of EA's new game 'skate.' And I'm having a blast with it.  This is a really really fun game after you get the controls worked out and can start nailing the grinds.  I'm cruisin around this city just goofin around, pullin off reverse fakey double nollie kickflips into front side 50-50 grinds and kickflipping out into 360 reverse grabs to manual.  Ok maybe I made that up, but its still fun as hell.  Even crashing is a blast and some of them really do look painful.  Eventually I started trying to see how many bones I could break in a single crash which had both me and my roommate and my cat laughing our asses off.   Ok, time to go for some cool tricks again.  So I find a good spot to go for a big jump, set down a session marker and off I go, building up speed, off the ramp, smash.  Dangit, try this again. Still no dice, I need more speed so I do what anyone else would do.  Oncoming traffic right?  doesn't work so well on a skateboard but oh well, keep trying it.  My friend had to point out to me that it wasn't really helping.  skate doesn't give you boost for doing that. "BurnoutAholic moment" I thought something was up.  Why isn't my boost bar filling up? shouldn't I be going faster?  I wasn't even thinking about it.  First thing I would do after crashing is skate into oncoming honestly thinking in the back of my head that I would get up to speed faster.  Yup, BurnoutAholic.

Im more of a Tony Hawk fan, but  I have been thinking of SKATE whats it like compared to it, and urm you do have it bad Ezo, I remember a little while after Halo 2 came out when I was alternating between halo and Burnout 3 I used to have dreams (freaky) of being the Master Chief and Sniping tyres of friends cars on the Big Red Bridge I t hink it was a USA map but not to shure

Hey Boot, I was writing up a response to your question and I guess I just ran away with it.  It kinda turned into bloggy size.  The game is great man, I really like it.  A bit of a learning curve to get the controls worked out but its really fun when you do.  I wrote up a blogger about skate / paradise that has more info in it.  Ill post it in a little bit.

I haven't played any of the Tony Hawk games in a while, maybe about two or three releases ago, can't remember which one it was.  What’s really different about skate.  is the controls and how you do tricks in the game.  RT controls your right hand (grabs) LT your left hand, X pumps your left foot, A pumps your right foot and 90% of your trick controls is off of the right analog stick.  Down up to ollie, up down to nollie etc etc.  It took me a good hour to wrap my head around it and get to the point where I could really start setting up some good runs of tricks and grinds.  Once I got that down the game was a blast to play.  The demo on the marketplace is pretty good but I'd run it at least 2 times to give yourself some time to get used to the controls.  I have no problems recommending it as a rental for sure.  There are no tricks to unlock so everything is open from the beginning you just have to figure out how to pull em off.  Just skating around the city you could kill a few hours easily and the game puts in subtle hints when you come across a nice area with good terrain by cranking up the music a notch or two.  Good soundtrack too by the way.  Crashing is a blast.

it sounds similar to Project 8, but with that the left and right analogue sticks give your feet control, so you could say do a ollie kick flip to dark slide flip it again to say a 50-50 do a quick 180 Melon the bar should be full click the right stick and ollie or nollie into a slow motion trick, did you know that the term used for doing jumps on a skateboard was named after the first dude to do one 'Ollie', my hands are that of a 200 year old   and doing combo's with buttons is a no no for me, but I will probably get it and if I dont like it I will blame you..lol

Yah, no button mashing in this one, its all 90% on the analogue stick, roll it, flick it etc.  Let me know if you rent it / pick it up

So after a long think about skate I have decided to buy it, I cant rent it as the closest rental is Bangor and to much hassle and all that, anyway I went to the city straight after work and trawled around the retail park, I went to Currys, PC World and Blockbusters and could find it no where, at this point I was cursing at my luck so I  got out my Nokia N95 with sat nav 5 megapixel camera and a copy of Burnout on the memory card and went onto Play.com (handy thing mobile internet) and guess what I saw, yes Ezo skate is not released in the UK until 12/10/07 thats right next month I feal such an Idiot, so I came home with my tail between my legs downloaded the Demo and urm yes its Ok, I like the camera angle, it kinda sucks that there is a time limit to it, I can ollie kick flip to dark slide, nollie off the rail, I can do a coffin under most of the objects, I can do a few moves but for the life of me I cant manual when I am moving, but it has put me in a mood for a bit of TH, anyway I will tell you what i think of it when it reaches our shores in a months time (I am a Idiot)

Some retail outlets have released Halo 3 to the public namely Argos and Tesco and apparently microsoft dont like it (no kidding)
