Before the 1.6 update, I used to be able to go into the "Under The Hood" menu and, under the Sponsor Product Code option, enter codes to get sponsored cars. Now, after the update, I go "Under The Hood" and that option is gone.
What's the deal? Is it just me or did they do this to everybody?

Probably for everyone... I don't have that option, either.

Whoa, this is crazy.
Now that the chance to get special cars is gone, if it is permanent (which I hope not for the sake of newcomers) then in a long enough time, having a sponser product code car, or even "Steel Wheels" will be considered rare or super-ultra-special or something like that.
2 effects (if this is permanent, and if this continues for a long time): 1) Newcomers will be amazingly jeleous if they hope to get everything in the game 2) Having a sponser product car will be a sign of experiance, and a huge cause for gamer respect (exageratedly)

Just remove the update from
Just remove the update from your hard drive, enter the codes for your sponsor cars, check your junkyard to make sure you got them and reinstall the update.

And what about the PC-gamers
And what about the PC-gamers who never could've entered such codes before? We probably will never be able to get those cars...

This may be small
This may be small consulation, but at least no one will be using something that you can't get. I rarely see people using the sponsor cars on the 360 anyway.

Sponsor cars, you aren't missing out on much...
The sponsor cars were mostly pre-order incentives, but the codes were available for everybody.
Most of the cars are just different skins for cars which are in the game, although some of the stats might be slightly different, you aren't really missing out on a lot if you can't get the cars.
There are still plenty of cars in the game, and although I use the gamestop quite a lot, it is pretty much the same as the Togue.

True, but...
The point, for me anyway, is less about special abilities and more about accessing something that's sitting in a game on my drive. If it's my skills, or the lack thereof, on a game, that's one thing...that's not a thing to do with the design team. But when viable code (in this case, car skins, but in others it's been gear, weapons, a race type, etc.) is inaccessible because access is not allowed period...
I'm not mad, of course... I just think it's a real bummer that something that as you say has no impact on the game (except the Steel Wheels car) is made inaccessible. Gotta wonder if the cars were being allowed as long as the "sponsors" were paying an advertising fee and they stopped paying... lol

Your right
You are right about them removing the product code access from the game, being based off of lack of sponsorship. The cars were given out to get people to pre order the game, or to at lest buy it from a particular store. Lets run down the list of stores that paid some money or some kind of concession for free advertisement. We have Wal-mart, Gamestop, Bestbuy, and Circuit City. There is I think one or two European stores on that list but I’m not sure. The Steel Wheels car was a pre-order gift. Which when M$ changed the dash board to the new NXE system the old codes didn’t work. Which leaving people like myself who bought the game due to the low $20 price tag, the Party Pack (which is a let down in my book, different topic), and new up coming car add-on packs, out in the cold from getting the older cars. Granted I got my copy 2 weeks before the 1.6 upgrade so I got all the sponsors cars, but Steel Wheels.
I do say they need to update the billboard system in the game… I don’t think I see any Compusa signs anymore...
