This is a topic that tends to be heard of by people who call themselves "true" racing fans. Burnout fans may argue, but if we think of those super realistic games like Grand Turismo 5, they only have one route from start to finish with however many laps. Burnout is a game about finding the right route.
For example, if for some reason you accidentally drive onto the dirt track during a race, you are going to find it hard to catch up with everyone, the same goes for the train track. I would consider myself to be good at racing games but if I accidentally take the wrong shortcut and end up on the wrong road, I am going to look like a bad driver and end up losing.
I would just like to know what people think about the "racing" aspect of Burnout, not the "take down" aspect, and how it compares to other racing games. If anyone has had the chance to play Burnout with a racing wheel please tell me about it.

Racing and Burnout
I would have to say that I don't think of Burnout Paradise as a racing game, the best aspects of Paradise for me are the online game modes like Stunt Run and the Timed Freeburn Challenges.
However, this doesn't mean that Burnout isn't one of the best racing games of all time. The earlier versions are much more about the racing and if you haven't tried Burnout 1 through to Revenge (and then Dominator too) I would highly recommend them for all out adrenaline pumping racing action!
I really hope that the next version of Burnout puts the emphasis back on Arcade Racing.
I am really looking forward to trying out FUEL and Split/Second to see if either of these titles will fulfill my Arcade Racing needs.
I dislike sim racing games as they take themselves far too seriously, and the players online also take them too seriously for me to be able to have fun playing them! If you are a real petrol head I think games like Forza and Gran Turismo will be more to your liking then Burnout.
I have never tried Burnout with a racing wheel, and I'm not sure how well this would work with Paradise although it is fully supported for playing with a wheel. Due to the arcade nature of Burnout I wouldn't feel right playing without my pad!

I agree with you about them
I agree with you about them taking themselves to seriously on GT5 etc. I play Burnout for the fun aspect mainly, but I do have some interest in GT5 and GRID aswell.

Paradise racing...
Just plainly sucks.... Thats why Psychedelic Babe always calls it Parashyte instead! Actually, Paradise needs to be looked at under its own merit... Its a good game, and Tigbits told me that it isnt noob friendly and you do have to invest a lot of time to actually be good in it. Some people may not want to play Paradise for that reason.. However, I think its more of a preference.. as for that game.. it just doesnt interest me enough for me to devote some time into it...
I suggest that if you really want a good racing game... get B3 or Revenge instead...

I quite like
the racing in Paradise City. Yeah it may not be as involved as Gran Turism but for arcade racing it isn't as bad as some make it out to be. If you know your way around quite well then it doesn't normally matter if you have a few scrapes as there are plenty of shortcuts to be had and make up those few precious seconds. Unlike most racers if you have 8 people playing then you can be sure that not all 8 players are going to go the same route.

I agree
The racing in Burnout Paradise has to be my least favourite aspect of the game, especially when i accidentaly take the wrong route as there is no restart option. Compared to Gran Turismo, Paradise is not really that similar in its racing style. However at the moment i prefer Paradise because of the realistic damage, GT prologue has no damage which is a bit of a let down for me (lets hope the full version has damage). I also like the freedom of being able to take different routes but travelling in excess of 200mph tyring to look at the map to see where to go is not very amusing, the races can get a bit confusing.

Not a racing game
I would agree that Paradise is not a traditional racing game, but Paradise is not your average car game. It's about the city, Paradise City, about getting to every part of it, and doing different things all over the city, and doing them with others. As we all know there are your fanatical racing fans, and there are those who want to just do challenges, and have fun, so there is something for everyone, which was CG intent I think.I have had a great time in Paradise, and I am looking forward to the Island.Cops and Robbers was a let down, but for the most part I like Paradise, and do not plan on leaving any time soon.Paradise City;not a real racing game? Then what kind of game is it?A fun one!
Late.

Burnout is a driving experience unlike any other...
Just that, its not just a racing game, its an experience that other games are still trying to replicate. Its, part racing, part adventure. Nothing is a true racing game execpt for a racing simulator that is 100 percent like real life in all ways shapes and forms. Meaning full customization and crash aftermaths and more. Xbox is the only console that has come close, they have the liscences to do so. ( i.e. Forza project over Gran Tourismo)
Burnout is not for the racing fan, its for the daredevil that loves speed, teamwork, adventures and explorations, some racing, carnage, and more.
As far as its racing, don't listen to the navigation, it sucks at times when you really need it. I like that its open and free and not friendly to race in. Too many people like racing in boundaries bc its easier and more controlled as far as the outcomes.
work hard ppl, don't hate it bc its hard to play, go to need for speed or some tokyo mess lol.
