Closing the Divide

Yesterday Alex Ward intervened and posted a comment at the Criterion Games forum which helps to close the divide in the community. It seems that either the Elite posters were never going to get an exclusive car, but were given a beta but it was worded badly. Or that Criterion have backtracked due to the unfairness of it all and the forum riot that they had!

Either way, I am glad the car is going to be available for everybody soon, I just hope that it isn't as fast as cars with boost. If the fastest car in the game is a boostless car Paradise online isn't going to look like a Burnout game anymore!

Here is the bulk of Alex's message:

We should have used the term 'closed beta' rather than 'for Elites.'

Personally, it's a term that doesn't sit well with me. The game is for everyone, all players, all abilties.

To me, everyone is welcome in Paradise.

For those of you totally into status, items and wanting to feel superior - then that's great. But Burnout is evolving, changing, moving forwards.

For some of you, you get it, you embrace the changes, you go where we're going.

For some of you, you will always want something which we are sadly unable to provide, you won't embrace our changes, you won't come with us when we move forward.

Forward to me means new players, new experiences, more fun, more laughter, more great online play.

Probably won't be as competitive as it has been, probably won't be about elites, probably won't be a place where you can come and feel superior.

New vehicles are going to come and everyone is going to get them.

Microsoft players, don't worry you will get stuff fast. No-one will miss out on anything.

If you buy the game on 'graduation day' then you still get the stuff and all the stuff that comes previously. There is no need for anyone to worry.

We hope you all continue to enjoy the new content we released free of charge last week.

Coming really soon now are the motorcycles and we're putting the final touches to them now. They are simple and easy to ride, and riding around Paradise City at both day and night is fun and entertainining. I especially like seeing the stars coming out in the early evening sky. Even the most hardcore fans will be surprised at just how much of a difference this simple change makes to the game.

As I said to someone in the office just yesterday - 'Burnout is what it is TODAY - and that's a live connected experience where you come to share fun driving experiences online.' For us, it's about moving forwards.

We hope that you will contine with us on this journey.

Hope you enjoy reading about the announcements at E3 as much as we do - and maybe see you online..

Alex

The Official Criterion Games Forum Elite Users Group has today vanished, another positive step Criterion Games has made today to re-unite the community.

Although, now a lot of the Elites are complaining cos they weren't warned! Criterion can't win!!

I don't care about there being no warning, but at least an explanation, even if it was just a simple "this is what we think is best for the community" would have been nice.

PsychedelicBabe's picture

you obviously didnt need the warning as Criterion knew that ''This was going to be the best thing for the community''.............

Less communication would be best for the community? Because that's what we're seeing now. (I didn't ask for a warning, just an explanation.)

Does this have anything to do with what I wrote?

Elite status has been resolved, there are now no more Elite's on the Criterion Forum.

The mess of the weekend seems to be getting ironed out, and people saying sorry, and communication seems to back between the forum helpers, community pushers. You people/players need something to make you stand out, though going by just the amount of helpful posts, you can see who does what, when and how, but let Criterion sort that out, who under the pressure (more like hassel, and harrasment) of a few over excited fans worring about not getting something for free, seemed to have come up with the idea of removing the BOLD STATUS.

It's good from one point of view, they will at least get to play with who they want at weekends instead of pacifing the mob of  'I wanna's... and I'll hold my breath till I get it...' but sad to see it go, though the Elite status did in the day mean a great racer/crasher/player, that was consistant, and was a good egg about it, by showing the way but with the next generation of Burnout with the release of Paradise, that's sort of old hat, and does not really hold up to the light for where Paradise is going.

A lot of people that play Paradise regulary, and post their exploites for others to follow, will still be there, and may get some sort of status and do anyway, mostly respect, but just keep it on the hush hush if anything special is handed out to you for a try out, being open is good, but can to lead to trouble, so is keeping a secret sometimes can lead to enjoyment, if it's like something special.

A lot of you guys, the only girl being ZombieTron for the 360, if she got the abuse you guys did, and Cagney did come the 360 way, and I was in the room, it would have got really ugly indeed, to the point of me being banded from the  all the EA servers let alone a forum, I would have gone all Reggie and Jay and Silent Bob on them, taking names and knocking on some doors and kicking in some prepubesiant balls, to the point that their voices would never drop, and that Alvin and the Chipmunks, would have had new band members, and would of had to change the band name to Alvin and the 'My Balls are in my throat Clan'.

Anyway I digress again, but a funny flight of fancy. A lot of you guys, formly Elite, were under a lot of pressure, and some of you cracked, and did all you could to repair that, by wasting a weekend, not really enjoying yourselves, for something that would have come everyones way eventually, which kind of sux, but does show what can happen, when you become something for what you do, and get highlited that way.

Anyway after this, everyone now knows what a community is like, fun, not so fun, unpredictable, entertaining, scary, childish, respectable, cool, informative, off the wall, you name it, it can be anything, and where ever it goes it will be dealt with, for the community by who ever started it in the first place.

Criterion are doing, what is best, they have a fan base, that has taken them by storm, a lot of people like their games, and are keeping Paradise, community minded for a year at least, they want to show you what they can do with what they have made.

And they are happy that you like their older games, but those games are 3 or more years old, and still stand the test of time, because they still get played, to the point of obsession, hence this site. But Criterion are only dealing with what they are working on NOW.

So, if you still have issues with the game, it's good to talk, but find the right place to say it, use the search function (if it works) to find where you want to say, and keep it to the point if you can, I know I never will, but give as much detail as you can, yes express yourself, but imagine you respected your mother, and she's reading your posts, she knows you are upset and forgives you, but she will not tolerrate a potty mouth, or threats and down right stubborness, because you can't have your own way.

I am guilty, because, I would like to see all the tracks that Criterion made in the games before Paradise, be put onto on 1 Island, all placed on top of another sort of thing, still open world, but muscle memory will do the rest, if you get what I mean, and lapped races and Start Points and different finishes, and maybe even yellow walls but you can drive through them, no maybe not yellow walls, but the Red X areas have been incorperated somehow, but a Race Island would be cool, as a sort of homage, to the past, but brought to the future, and even do some next generation versions of some of the Classic Cars, from all the past games too. Just the tracks mind, the buildings would be different, though a nice Asia feel would be coool as I miss those darn TUK-TUKS.

£10, $20 for the Classic Island 75, 000 minimum on Revenge leaderboards, £750, 000, $150,000 possible turn over, and no it's not about the money, to do something like this I would not know what it would cost, time it would take, but more a payment to say, we know you don't want to make it, but we will pay for it because thats what some of us want. Though placing White Mountain over Tropical Drive is going to be a logistical nightmare, it all will be, as I think about it again. I would love to see a Lookdown view of all the Maps ever made for Burnout games, and a side view for elevation, to see if it could be done. Speedo option extra.

Paradise is not supposed to be taken as seriously as the other games, where being the best was important, Rank, scores, tecnique, still can't spell it right but it looks a lot closer, and just all around hero, to some people eyes.

I think because Criterion has been winged at over the years, some people can't do something, boost start as an example, they removed it from the equation of game play, and they did that through the series, can't weave through cars, have checkable traffic. To the point of trying to go some where else with it. And they did, and It's called Burnout Paradise. No it's not a link, I just changed it's colour. Yes, the eyes will wonder when it sees colour.

Live with it, don't live with it, they have the control of what they do, but Criterion want Paradise to be Community "Influenced" so seeing as they want that, do that!

And know your special because you play Burnout and are part of it's community, what ever game version your playing.

A lot of What evers there sorry for that, but maybe because that is all I see these days, have a care, hug a plant...

get off me, I have more Brain cells than a Plant, well at least I hope so?

So to all ex-elite, bummer guys and gal, hope something, gets thrown your way, from a VIP on Burnoutaholics, stands for Very Interestin'sineP, no that would be VIS, but I'm trying to be funny.

Believe it or not, I actually got death threats over the Rai-Jin. Let that sink in for a moment.

Losing elite isn't a big deal in comparison. I just think that some sort of heads up or explanation or thank you would have been good.

Shows the state of the world these days. People are so jealous and have such a sense of entitlement that they feel the need to threaten to kill over something they don't have yet in a video game.

Sad state of affairs, but welcome to the Gi'me culture or die.

Just know that you, Zerojay and other BOLD posters, did what you think is best for the community and be satisfied with a job well done, minus the weekend from hell, lol. And your still playing, which is always good.

It's totally ridiculous that people went that far, I hope you took PSN id's and report the people who used abuse and threats both to PS and to Criterion, possibly even to the police. It is illegal to give death threats!

Hopefully at the very least those people will be banned from the forum and from online Paradise!

Sorry to hear you all had such a hard time, tbh I think I would have switched off and gone and done something less traumatic instead.

What surprises me most I think, is all this fuss over a car which doesn't even have BOOST?!?

zerojay's picture

Yes, I went straight to PSN with the info. It's apparently been dealt with.

Zombie, it could have been a car limited to 5MPH and it probably still would have had the exact same reaction.
