Let me preface this by saying that I loved Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis.. ok.. so this week we watched the first two episodes of Stargate Universe, I had been looking forward to this ever since I first heard about it, although I had forgotten all about it for a while until Xandu mentioned that it was starting now.
So, the opening credits were exciting, I hadn't read up about the show as I like to find out about stuff when I see it. I avoid movie trailers like the plague when there is a film I really want to see, it just spoils it when you know too much before hand.
Robert Carlyle was the first name up... then comes Lou Diamond Phillips, hadn't heard that name for a while, in between were loads of names I didn't know, and then ofcourse most of the SG1 team guest appearances.
Cool, so I sit back and get ready to enjoy the ride!
What a mega dissapointment!!! OMG, it's on a similar level of parc as StarTrek Enterprise! First off it's a confusing cut to back in time storyline. Secondly there was a completely unnescesarry sex scene in the first 5 minutes, reminded me of the shower scene in the first StarTrek Enterprise which put me off watching the series! Thirdly, they put the characters in peril before we were introduced to them... I don't care if they die, I don't know who they are!!
Other than that tho, and the fact that I don't really like any of the characters yet, and the premise doesn't really allow for additional characters, except for alien ones, which I guess could be good. The set up seems to be OK and I will watch a couple more just to see if it gets better. But, the first two eps really were bad... I nearly turned off half way through as it really wasn't keeping my interest.
Heres hoping that it either improves dramatically or gets canned quicker than Enterprise did so the creators can go back to making made for TV SG1 movies instead!!
