Concerning this RRoD, my nephew's 360 have the RRoD over and over again. All 4 were lite up. Now it may be just his, but I took it completely apart since it was out of warranty and cleaned the motherboard off with a high power vacuum and component cleaner. It has worked great ever since (about 3 weeks now), so just a thought from my point of view.
Happy Gaming!!!!!!!

"All 4 were lite up"
4 red lights is not the RRoD, you might want to check this - support.microsoft.com/kb/906652 - before you take another console apart.

Overheating
Like I said it might be his console, but when it overheated all 4 were lite up. Might be another issue for Microsoft to look into.

RROD or Overheating?
Im sure that RROD is three 3 rings. Any time you see 4 rings, that Overheating. So if you see 3 rings, that is permanent and it needs to be shipped back to the company.

3 or 4 rings
I was messing with my console during its time of death, mine did do three rings, but you can force four rings, all you need to do is pull out your t.v lead while its still powered up and bash it against the side of your xbox, and hey presto, you get the full set. like magic.
