I have to post this link cos it made me smile!
"Never gonna give you up" was the last 7" pop single I ever bought, I was 13 years old and I went on to smash it into millions of pieces not that long after I bought it, I was in a musical transition from Pop to Metal!
I still have a soft place for Rick tho, and he looks like he is a happy bunny in the linky, which is a good thing.
The first 7" I ever bought was "Hit me with your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, I was only 4 at the time, so I guess my Mum was the one who actually did the buying!
Do you remember your first and last singles?

First and last...
My first 7" was Kajagoogoo with Too Shy, bought when I was 13 and had *finally* gotten a record player. But the first music I got was when I was about 7, which was a tape with Boney M - Boonoonoonoos. And you know, I still like that tape! (despite the fact that it's more or less dead from wear).
The last 7" was... no idea. I more often bought 12" singles (imports and remixes) than 7". The last music I bought was though um... the collected works of Depeche Mode a couple of years ago... or Asia... I can't recall. Music taste is seriously broad... not much classical music being put on voluntarily, but hard rock (AC/DC, Asia), progressive rock (Soundgarden etc), progressive synth pop (Alan Parsons), pop (Depeche Mode, italo music) and then of course my normal work music, which is techno dance and trance.
I'm not confused, I'm just broadminded
Laters...

Geniuses
I'd like to nominate (belatedly) the geniuses (genii?) behind rickrolling for the nobel peace prize. They've bought joy to so many.
My first 7" was...and it's embarassing to admit this after 25 years of denying it...Jennifer Rush's The Power of Love when I was 7.
My last was Pearl Jam's Jeremy on white vinyl. Nice.

Coloured Vinyl, and I lied.. sorry!
Cool, thanks for all your replies so far, it's really interesting how eclectic people's tastes are.
Seeing Gooner's post about Jeremy on white vinyl reminded me of other 7" records I had after Rick Astley, so I guess I did carry on buying singles on vinyl, although I don't remember purchasing them... maybe they were freebies or I got them some other way?? After Rick, I pretty much went over to cassettes until the switch to CD's and I was mostly getting albums and not singles (although I did get some albums on vinyl still) anyway...
I had a single on 7" Pink Vinyl... and I have had to google this because I couldn't remember exactly what it was called or who it was by. It was Three Little Pigs by Green Jello, I can not remember how it went! I might have to try to find it online later to remind myself.
I also got a few singles from the cover of Metal Hammer and Kerrang... one of which was a song I really liked, but I also can't remember the name of the band. I think the song title was "What do you do?" I will try to find this later too..
I remember buying "Still too young to Remember" by It Bites, I got it on 12" back in '89... Vinyl was cool!

Well the third little piggy, the grade A student.
His daddy was a rock star, named Pig Nugent.
Earned his Masters Degree, from Harvard College.
Built his house from his architect knowledge.
A tri-level mansion, Hollywood Hills.
Daddy's rock stardom, paid for the bills.
And then one day came the old house smasher
the BIG BAD WOLF THE LITTLE PIGGY SLASHER.
(Chorus)
Well the big bad Wolf, well he huffed, and he puffed, all that he could. And low and behold the little piggy's house stood. IT'S MADE OUT OF CONCRETE! the little piggy shouted. The wolf just frowned, as he pouted. So they called nine-eleven, like any piggy would. The sent out RAMBO, just as fast, as they could. (Rambo) YO, WOLF-FACE, I'M YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE, YOUR ASS IS MINE!!! Ahhhh.... that song takes me back
