I wonder how many PC players there are so far...

I finally had the guts to go to online mode and check out the lobby last night... At what I thought would be a peak time, there were only a max of 20 people in the lobby, including myself... I figure the online stats shown by CriterionGames News blotters are for totals of all players from all 3 platforms, and with the dismally small amount of people shown online for PC, and the fact that an amateur like myself could set so many daily online records at that time of night leads me to wonder how few PC players there are.

I suppose that since the game's only been out for a couple of days (literally) for computers that this will pick up... I hope so!... But I'd have thought with all the 9.0+ rave reviews at the various gaming sites that more people would have grabbed it right away. I know that ever since I saw the notices of it coming soon to the PC I bookmarked the news pages for those sites, as well as have been subscribed to Direct2Drive in the hopes that it would come there. It did, too! 1 day early, even! (yes, I started playing it the morning of the 5th hehe).

Wait...I wonder if that's why there's so few PC players online so far...Was release day for "the general populace"... Hmmm.

So...I have no friends.

Well, that's not entirely accurate.

I have no friends who play Burnout (any one of them) on the PC or otherwise.

Okay, so for this game's purposes, I have no friends...

I thought about trying to join some random online games, but I have this weird thing about people who try to get a name they like, and failing that, tack on numbers or weird characters to a partial version of the name just to get it... *shrugs* Nothing against them personally, per se, but I like playing with people who feel a bit more creative in that they try for something else that's more original (i.e.; no one else thought of the name yet). I've noted that people who keep trying until they get a name they like and that isn't taken tend to have a more laid back less "hardcore" personality... Yes, that's a generalization, but I see the former as more the hardcore fps shooter "CS A Type" (CS = Counterstrike) personality and the latter as more of the "Explorer E Type" personalities. You know the ones...more apt to cruise around and explore the game rather than only log on to raid (MMO reference, sorry, but the most readily referenced type of game to refer to gamer personality types as rated by those fun sites).

Wow...another ramble from me...Go figure. lol

Okay, point was...? Hmmm....I think I almost forgot my point.

Oh yes! Point is, I hope that the game garners more online players that I could see myself racing with. When I played MMO's, I always joined "casual, fun and family oriented" ones...I used to be a raider (hardcore gamer) but as I've gotten older, I've found that I'm less driven to prove I'm "the best" at anything, and that my free game time is best spent enjoying myself rather than working at something and getting irate when it doesn't work out just perfectly for me, or I don't get my "drop", I'm not the top of the dps charts, etc. Let's not forget being judged by others as not being as good as them.... Excuse me...I'm old, tired, not in the best health, and just want to enjoy my game time, not play who's the biggest...rooster...in the henhouse anymore. lol

I'm still a BurnoutAholic. Well...NOW I am.

GT said at one point that he has Paradise for the PC... You might want to find him and race him when hes on....

Oh, BTW... I have no problems with people with PCs or PS3s... I just play 360 more, so whenever I talk about stuff... Its always geared to the 360 version...

The most rooms I saw tonight was 27. Could be that many people are playing through the single player mode until they get to some of the better cars.

Could be...I saw 36 for a couple minutes earlier tonight, though when trying to just quick join a random game, for 10 mins I got the same one...a bunch of guys who only spoke...Japanese(?)... Nothing against them, or anything, but it's easier to play with people you can understand. lol

So I just left the online scene for awhile...trying to get closer to the Elite License. Only 50 more events...

Grip the ear on the side your turning to and lean. Also helps to grease the paws a bit.

Sorry, I didnt realize that you used a gamepad for that.... Im not much of a PC user, so whenever I do buy a PC game, i.e. Diablo 1,2, XCOM, Crysis,.. ect.. I always use the mouse... Kind of weird to me using a mouse to get your car to drift you know.. LOL...

The game pad, Ive never touched.... so I wouldnt know how it compared to PS3 Dpad and 360 Analog.... Im not sure which one would be better, since Im so used at using the Analog stick all the time.....

Well, you can see the pad I use at www.saitekusa.com/prod/P2600.htm

It's worked out well for me and is, so far, the only gamepad who's mini joysticks don't stop working after about 4 hours of use under my less than delicate touch. lol I used to use Logitech pads, but they seem to have degraded in quality, so I'm now hooked on Saitek devices. They seem to be able to take the punishment of gaming quite well.

Face it...we all know that pushing the joysticks harder, mashing the buttons harder, don't make the objects in the game respond any better, but we all mash, jam, crush, and slam the buttons and joysticks anyway... lol

Edited to add: Oh, and Incognito? There are so many game pads out there...you can get the cheapest Fisher-Price looking thing, the most advanced next gen motion detecting gloves as pads, or you can get ones that look and act just like XBox or PS3 pads. In fact, I believe that with a bit of fanegling you can actually use the XBox and the PS3 pads (though I've never tried, I heard you just need special driver software).

I'd venture to say PC gaming has a much wider array of available peripherals than all the console games combined, really. Heck, some manufacturers offer more variety than all consoles combined, just about. lol

Take a look as Saitek and Logitech's offerings for pads and sticks alone... They're just two of the many companies making these things.

A wired XBox pad works no problem with Vista - just plug into the USB port and the drivers will load. Little bit of an adjustment if you're a PS3 user but not as much as I expected.

Also agree with the comments regarding Saitek and Logitech. Both offer some nice PC pads.
