Crash TV episode 27 - Open University for Boost!

I don't know how many people who play Burnout Paradise were alive in 1983, I imagine that for a lot of you this is way before your time and you may not get the reference. But, the new Crash TV is based on BBC 2's Open University shows and features Professor Follett teaching us all about Boost.

Crash TV episode 27: The University of Paradise

First up there is a history lesson, so for those of you whose first experience of Burnout is Burnout Paradise you get a glimpse of the first 4 games in the series. The games which for me define Burnout. Then you get to see the way Boost has been changed in Paradise, and how the Boost works in the new Boost special cars; The Hawker Mech and The Hot Rod Extreme.

Seeing the evolution of Boost and how now with the new Hot Rod you don't even have to earn boost. You can take any line you like and do not have to think about trying to get oncoming or near misses. This is just more evidence that Burnout has strayed too far away from it's roots. Burnout was once a simple game with a few key ingredients that made it stand out in the racing genre:

1) Close, fast, intense race action!

2) Boost that had to be earned through dangerous driving!

3) Crashes!

Yes, there are some of these elements in Burnout Paradise, but if you go back to play the previous Burnout's you will see how different a game it is. I really hope there is some Devolution in the next incarnation of Burnout, to bring back the 3 key points that for me, make the Burnout experience.

I loved the way he sounded unprofessional, great acting.

he mentioned that this was the first game with boost lock, but if remember rightly it was availible in burnout 3 when you got four or more takedowns in a race you got the boost locked, suffer also mentioned that it was implemented in revenge, but i cant remember getting it (probley never had more than 3 takedowns in a race). can anybody else remember boost lock in revenge?

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

I don't think I ever remember getting Boost Lock in Revenge, but it was definitely in Burnout 3.

Getting Boost Lock on the Blue Team in Road Rage was cool! Evened out the playing field, at least until I crashed and lost it!!!

Ofcourse the Red Team with infinite boost had an effective Boost Lock too, so the Extreme Hot Rod isn't the first time we have seen Boost Lock in Burnout!

next game in the series, burnout not bothered really, though rumours are a revolution, we make a game how we want again, some sucker will like it, play it and praise it. I just want a racing arcade game, you can't even race in Paradise with out an xbox freeze, and Revenge is just left turn, right turn and around the rabbit we go.

and zombie start a new site, why i hate paradise, with cuckles from ''ello 'ello', and other war comedys like 'some mothers do have 'em'.

sorry i see innovation rise but game play die, a reason to master been left to a hand job, i see visuals go sky high, but are used to distract rather than enhance a players ability, creators look so hard for the next big thing, and make a game lasting 40 hours, the rest of the time is used waiting and bytching, hence why i have not bothered, because that is all we and i do, i spend more time crashing, rather than learning now, so i'm back to sleep.

criterion games community excellence in video production, should not follet be too busy giving pc gamers the same as the console, sorry but all paradise has come  to be is a bytch feast, long may it last...

 ...run out? its sunny...

Patience is something I taught myself, so I never know when it's going to run out?
