TotalVideoGames.com has posted a FUEL review, giving the game a measley 5/10! You can read the full review HERE.
The reviewer makes several comparisons with Burnout Paradise, mostly as Paradise delivers more to do in an open world. FUEL seems to be all about the races, but the AI aren't much of a challenge. Online however might be a different story, but in order to take full advantage of the possible 16 player online races, enough people will need to get past the dodgy reviews and buy the game and give it a go.
Unlocking cars seems similar to Paradise too, they appear in the open world and you have to go and "tag" them in order to get to drive them yourself.
I thought Paradise was a bit too much of just an Open World Environment over Great Gameplay, but it seems that FUEL has taken this a step further. A HUGE open world, but sadly that seems about it...
I guess Xandu and I might just get the 1 copy to check it out, and then only purchase a 2nd if it seems that the online is going to be something we want to play together.
As I am not a big fan of the whole open world racing thing, this may not be the game for me.
I'm not really sure now where my next racing fix will come from, perhaps I should put all my hopes on Split/Second??

More FUEL reviews...
HERE is IGN's offering, they particularly mention how there is no reward for 2nd place, I really disliked this about Paradise, all previous Burnouts gave rewards for finishing in the top 3 Medal positions, having a game which is just win or lose is very disheartening to me. Although Paradise events were all pretty easy, and it seems like the same can be said for FUEL, I would prefer a tougher challenge that rewards you for coming in the top 3.
And it gets even worse in Eurogamers review HERE.
I'm sure we will still give it a go ourselves and write our own review once we have. Til then tho, I am extremely dissapointed!
EDIT - I am getting more and more put off from getting this game, which is a real shame as I thought it had a lot of promise. If you are still thinking about getting this game I would now have to recommend renting it first as it seems like it really could be that bad.

Your next racing fix
You say you dont know where to get your next racing fix from? What are your thoughts on NFS: Shift? Its getting huge amounts of interest now after E3 and looks to be a PGR killer, absolutely stunning in my opinion. With Bizarre Creations splitting from MS and shoving out their next game called Blur or should that be bleurgh! hopes of another PGR game are all but gone now heres a short gameplay vid i uploaded to youtube of NFS: Shift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbOrzx_pouM
and back to your apprehension for FUEL...You can check out the first 10 mins of the game in full HD by downloading these: ( right click )http://de2.gamersyde.com/protected/e4a31c780e612cb0e59a5180347e08df/4a27c823/10min_fuel_part1.wmv

Pass on Shift
NFS: Shift is a simulation game, so I doubt you'll like that Zomb. You next best bet on a new racing game in my opinion would be Blur and Split/Second, both of which won't be out for a while.
If I have the money, I'll be getting Forza 3 myself later this year. It too is a simulation, but it makes things really easy and unnecessary to know much about cars. All you need to be is good at driving the way a simulation racer wants you to.

No its not
Shift a simulation? Youre not serious right? Take PGR, mix in a dollop of GRiD, simmer for 20 mins and you get Need For Speed: Shift. Its about as arcade as they come. High speed 60fps bumper to bumper racing. Nothing more, nothing less

Hmm indeed
Define your perception of a sim and i'll check back here on the games release. To quote "A key part of EA's overall vision for SHIFT is to remove the grind often associated with sim racers" You are going to able to tweak the set up sure but it wont be a sim! Forza 3 yes, NFS no. If NFS Shift were to come anywhere near being a sim i for one would be in racing heaven but i aint gonna fool myself.
