This is the third article in the “A blast from the Past” series. Burnout 3: Takedown is by some considered the best game in the Burnout series. In this article we will take a look at the new features that were introduced and why the game gained such popularity.
Burnout 3: Takedown was the follow-up to the best seller Burnout 2: Point of Impact. Criterion wanted to improve performance in the technical base for Burnout which in turn would allow them to make a faster, more graphically stunning and bigger racing game. Lots of new features were implemented in Burnout 3: Takedown and we will have a look at some of them later on in the article.
Burnout 3: Takedown was released on the 7th of September 2004 in the US, on the 10th of September 2004 in Europe and Australia and 14th of October 2004 in Japan. The game instantly gained massive popularity. Burnout 3: Takedownfeatures a unique aggressive racing concept and a one-of-a-kind special effects engine that delivers spectacular visuals.
With 36 different tracks spanning three continents, players can battle in over 70 cars and takedown opponents across a broad range of conditions and environments, as well as experiencing 100 unique crash junctions. Burnout 3: Takedown features highly sophisticated crash technology that recreates high speed crashes with extreme detail and allows the player to use their car as a weapon and takeout rivals, controlling the car even after crashing. Players can compete online in five different modes, featuring up to 8 participants. The online game modes are: Single Race, Road Rage, Team Crush, Double Impact and Party Crash.
