Burnout 3: Takedown

Burnout 3: Takedown in the Top 10 most played XBL games

Burnout 3: Takedown is number 7 of the Original Top XBox Live titles for week 3 2008. The ranking is based on global unique users.  This is not a surprising development since the game was released on XBox Originals on the 14th of January.

BurnoutAholics have been hosting lobbies 3 or 4 times since the game was released and the online activity is high. There are lots of new players trying out the game and from what I hear they really seem to enjoy the game.

To celebrate the release I have finally completed Part 3 of the "A blast from the past" series. You can read our article about Burnout 3: Takedown here. This will hopefully be interesting to both new and old BurnoutAholics.

Generation 3: Takedown

Burnout 3: Takedown

The third generation of the series was ushered in with the release of Burnout 3: Takedown on the 7th of September 2004 in the US, on the 10th of September 2004 in Europe and Australia and 14th of October 2004 in Japan. The third generation in the series brought with it something which all BurnoutAholics had been waiting eagerly for ever since the series started: Online play! This expanded the horizons of the game to dazzling new heights and has made Burnout a household name all over the world. Sadly, it was also the start of a new era in that Electronic Arts had taken over the franchise from Acclaim, and of course putting their brand all over the product. This made several hardcore BurnoutAholics severely depressed as it commercialized the game to the extreme. Burnout 3: Takedown is regarded to be the baseline of gameplay features for the third generation of Burnout games.

Drift jumping in Burnout 3: Takedown

We've got a new video out in the Burnout-Takes section today. It's showing drift jumping in Burnout 3: Takedown. The video is from February 2005 and it resurfaced today when I was having a look at some old Burnout-Takes on my computer. This technique was originally discovered by Xandu back in 2004. In the video you will see that I called it a "speed glitch" this is because that I didn't at that point know that it was actually "drift jumping" I was doing. I would guess that other players have discovered this later on as well.

It's not really very useful for anything since controlling your car is really difficult and the risk of crashing is very high. The video does not show how it is actually done it only shows the speeds that can be achieved. On Island Paradise you can get up to speeds around 450 MPH!
