Trespassing at the Observatory?

When I was doing some Online freeburning with SUFFUR, ZombieTron and Kevlar0 last night SUFFUR discovered an “inaccessible” road close to the Crystal Summit Observatory. Well, inaccessible is probably not the right word. When kevlar0 finally got out of a tight spot between some boulders we all managed to get into the area and below are some pictures to prove it.

XNA Creators Club

As some of you already know I’ve been in to games development for over 20 years. I created my first game on the Sharp MZ-700. I later went on the PC platform and created a couple of simple games including a snake clone and a trivia game. As a curiosity I also developed games for the TI-82/85 calculator. When Windows 95 was released I converted to C++ and created a slot machine and even started work on framework for a online Casino… this was back in 1996 and I really regret not finishing this project.

ILM: Printing Your Map

Someone emailed me earlier today asking about printing and the Burnout Paradise Map.  Their main concern was about the panel transparency not working when the map was printed.  However, similarly, the transparent backgrounds of the icons could also be lost, turning their backgrounds to an unsightly black. I didn't even know people printed things out like this anymore (or, more accurately, I personally never do), so I never considered it until now.

ILM: Custom Races

If you haven't seen it already (and I'm sure most of you have) BurnoutAholics' own Xandu has made good use of the extensibility of ILM and created a Race Checkpoints Map - and quite effectively at that.  Xandu even has a map demonstrating a custom race.

Race Checkpoints Map

Today I've used senocular's brilliant Interactive Location Map tool to create a map of all the checkpoints that can be set for online routes in Burnout Paradise. Check out the map here: http://www.senocular.com/burnout/?load=http://burnoutaholics.com/KML/checkpoints.xml. You can click any checkpoint and information about the roads crossing at the checkpoint will be shown.

I still have a couple of things left to do:

Inside Xbox

The Stunt Run guide to getting into the millionaires club is still up on the inside Xbox feature on your 360. If you have a 360 and still don't have a million on Stunt Run or are struggling with Stunt Run altogether it is well worth checking out.

I always thought the inside Xbox thing was a bit of dodgy advertising, but it actually has some content worth looking at! WOW!

ILM: What's Yet to Come?

There are a few items on deck for the map.

[Update: complete] For one, I'd like to separate super jumps and billboards into their respective locations (city districts).  This will make them much easier to find, especially if you're looking for that last smash in Harbor Town, etc.

ILM: The Story So Far

As of today, the map contains the following locations:

  • City districts
  • Super jumps
  • Billboards
  • Smashes
  • Events
  • Drive thrus
  • Parking Garages
  • Hidden areas

Clicking on the icons within a locations set will give you a description of that location.  Unfortunately, not too much detail is available for most of the available locations, but over time, that will improve.
